While some of us actually enjoy cleaning (yes really!), most of us absolutely hate doing it and avoid it like the plague, but I think we’ll all agree it’s a necessary evil. How satisfying is the feeling of a freshly cleaned house so you might as well multi-task and tone up while you’re cleaning…
Floor scrubs- Mopping burns approximately 195 calories per hour, but you can go one better by getting down on your hands and knees and scrubbing away at any marks like Cinderella. This will work out your shoulders and upper arms and give you really clean floors.
Stairs pick-up- Run or walk up and down your stairs 5 to 10 times. You can do this while tidying different rooms, bringing objects from 1 room to another. If you don’t have stairs then run from room to room instead. You burn approximately 500 calories per hour walking up and down stairs. Increase your strength training by squatting whenever you pick up objects which will help to build your quadriceps, hamstring and abs.
Window circles- Use your left and right hands equally as you wipe in a circular motion. Reach up as high as you can to work your abs, gluts and lower back muscles. You burn approximately 180 calories per hour cleaning windows
Dishy calf raises- Do calf raises as you hand wash dishes. Start with your legs hip-width apart. Move onto your toes and hold for 3 to 10 seconds, and then slowly come down. Repeat this 10 times and do 3 sets with 1 minute resting between sets.
