Morzine is one of the most charming villages you will ever visit, with friendly locals, wonderful natural beauty and a fab village feel. Nestled in the Haute-Savoie region of the French Alps, Morzine is unusual in that the ski resort is also a working town, where people live year round and businesses thrive all year too. Summer in Morzine is becoming more and more popular for visiting mountain bikers, and of course visiting in Winter means you can experience the full Portes du Soleil ski area and enjoy a lively Savoyarde town, with lots going on to entertain families and friends alike.
From Morzine you can take one of three ski lifts:
-The Pleney bubble accesses the Morzine ski area, and also connects easily to Les Gets, which with it’s rolling slopes and plethora of blue and green runs (although the Chamoissiere ski area can challenge even the most advanced skier!) is perfect for families.
-The Super Morzine bubble takes you to great skiing in 5 minutes which is perfect for beginners, and also connects to Avoriaz via one short slope and a chair lift.
-The new Prodains cable car, which connects directly to Avoriaz from Morzine, is a short bus ride from the centre and with buses running to it every 15 minutes you can be in Avoriaz and skiing in no time at all. Avoriaz is great for parks and high, fast runs.
Morzine is part of the Portes du Soleil, which boasts 650 km of linked slopes, covering both France and Switzerland. There’s something for everyone, from tree-lined slopes in Morgins to steep blacks and reds in Les Crosets. A popular skiing day is the circuit, where you cover the whole of the PDS in one day, usually stopping for a spot of lunch in sunny Châtel.
Morzine has an abundance of great bars and restaurants, with delectable Savoyarde food such as cheese fondue and raclette. There are often events happening during the winter and summer; in 2014 Simple Minds played a free concert in Morzine in the summer and in the winter Rock the Pistes music festival is getting bigger and bigger, while Winter 2015 brings us the first Snowboxx festival in Avoriaz – Snowboxx
