Greasy, dirty, caked on food and a funny smell every time you use it… yes we are talking about the humble oven, provider of yummy meals and baked goods! Mots of us use their oven at least once a day, so we should look after this essential appliance by keeping it clean! If you have a self-cleaning oven then lucky you, but as you probably know they aren’t magical and there does take some work keeping them clean.
DAILY FRESHEN UP:
The best way to keep your oven clean and minimize how much effort you need to put into cleaning it, is to clean it EVERY time you use it. It’s easier said than done we know, but a stitch in time really does save nine!
Step 1: Wait until your oven has cooled down. Remove the trays and wire rack. Spray the inside with a kitchen spray such as Method daily kitchen spray.
Step 2: Using a cloth soaked in warm water wipe down the inside of the oven. Concentrate on the bottom of the oven and the inside of the door. Wipe off any food spills. They shouldn’t be too hard to get off if you clean the spills straight away. Dry using kitchen towel.
Step 3: Using washing up liquid and hot water, give the oven tray and wire rack a good wash, removing food before it gets the chance to get really cooked on!
Step 4: Clean the front of the oven door and around the dials. We find window cleaning spray and a microfibre cloth makes the glass and any stainless steel look fab
Of course even with the best intentions, sometimes you might forget to clean your oven, even we occasionally do here at Trust and Dust (!). If that’s the case you need to pull out the big guns, in the shape of a leave on oven cleaner. These things are very strong and the smell can really make you cough, so make sure the room you are in is well ventilated!!!
Step 1: Remove the trays and wire rack and put to the side. Make sure you have your rubber gloves on and then spray all over the inside, not forgetting the door, with the cleaning spray. Don’t be shy with it!
Step2: Spray the oven tray and wire rack too if need be.
Step 3: Have a cup of tea, put your feet up and wait for at LEAST 15 minutes, although half an hour is better! Let the leave on spray work its magic…
Step 4: Next, using a metal scourer get scrubbing the oven. This is where the elbow grease comes into play!
Step 5: Using a warm wet cloth wipe the inside of the oven, making sure you remove all of the oven cleaner.
Step 6: Using the metal scourer again, scrub the oven trays and the wire rack, drying them off and putting them back in the oven.
Step 7: Clean the front of the oven door and around the dials as for the daily clean. Use an old toothbrush to clean around the dials and buttons if necessary.
