At the end of June Morzine Mairie are going to implement an initiative to close the roads in the centre of town for a few hours at the end of the day, twice a week.
The shopkeepers want to make the centre of the town more desirable to walk around (without dodging cars!) and to preserve a village atmosphere. Shops will be allowed to have stalls outside their shops to showcase their wares to passers by.
The roads that will be closed are: Route de la Combe à Zore, Taille de Mas du Pléney, Route de la Plagne from the petrol station towards the centre) Rond-Point de la Crusaz and Rue du Bourg. A deviation will be put in place along the l’avenue de Joux Plane so that cars can still drive in the direction of the Mairie. The Petit Train will still be running along the closed streets, as will the horse and carriages.

We aren’t sure of the exact start date yet, but the days the roads will be closed are Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3.30 and 7.30 pm. It is weather permitting though so fingers crossed for sun!
It sounds like Morzine will be bustling during these special afternoons and tourists and locals alike will flock to enjoy the pedestrianised streets, shop stalls and the buzzing ambiance. We can’t wait!
